2017 LASG Annual Meeting Held in Beijing

The Annual Conference of the State Key Laboratory of Numerical Modelling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamis (LASG) was held in Beijing from 5 to 6 December 2017 in Beijing.

 

LASG deputy director Prof. XIE Zhenghui presided over the opening ceremony. The conference started with LASG director Prof. XIAO Ziniu’s overview report on LASG work summary in 2017. He presented LASG major progresses in all aspects and introduced 2018 work plan featuring openness and cooperation. The scientific program comprised 46 oral talks and 41 posters. Presentations are organized into 6 sessions themed ENSO dynamics, weather and climate dynamics, modelling and parameterization, land-air interaction, air-sea interaction. The talks covered a variety of reports on atmospheric science frontier as well as LASG members’ research highlights in 2017. LASG members achieved impressive progress in 2017. 221 papers were published in academic journals, among which 167 are SCI indexed papers. 56% of these SCI papers are published in journals with impact factor above 3. 15 papers in particular, are published in in journals with impact factor above 5.



Over 300 scientists and students joined the conference, which peaked a historical high. Participants came from about 40 organizations including CAS institutes, universities, affiliated departments of China Meteorological Administration, and overseas organizations including Hawaii University USA and the Met Office UK. In addition, it was for the first time that the meeting had been broadcast online. Around 500 people watched the live.

 

Prior to the annual meeting on the morning of 4 December, LASG Open research program assessment meeting was held. Each program undertaker reported on his work in the last year. Assessment panel reviewed the implantation of each program and proposed on future plan.
